Jet Analytics — pre-built data warehouse + cubes for Business Central

Jet Analytics is the data-warehouse-and-cubes sibling of Jet Reports. Where Jet Reports is the Excel front-end against live BC data, Jet Analytics builds and maintains a SQL Server / Azure SQL data warehouse populated from BC (and from any other source you point at it) plus pre-built OLAP cubes and Tabular models that Power BI, Excel and Reports Center can all hit. Product is from insightsoftware; Amplio implements and supports.

What it does

Three layers, in order. (1) Data warehouse — pre-built schema for BC tables that handles incremental loads, historical change-tracking and multi-company unioning automatically. 250+ data-source connectors if you need to bring in CRM, payroll, e-commerce or warehouse-management data. (2) Cubes / Tabular models — 200+ pre-built BC measures, dimensions, hierarchies. Pre-aggregated so a finance director slicing five years of GL by cost centre gets sub-second response. (3) Reporting layer — Power BI native, Excel via PivotTable, or Jet Reports against the warehouse instead of live BC. Pick whichever your team prefers.

Why warehouse-and-cube and not just live BC?

Three reasons we see most often. Performance — slicing GL data by month × dimension × company gets slow against the BC SQL backend, especially in cloud BC where you don't own the database. The cube pre-aggregates. History — BC stores the current state of master data; the warehouse retains snapshots, so you can re-run last quarter's report with last quarter's customer hierarchy. Cross-source — the moment you need to join BC to something non-BC (Salesforce, payroll, web analytics) you need somewhere that isn't BC. The warehouse is that somewhere.

BC integration & deployment

  • BC SaaS — Jet pulls via the BC API. No on-prem footprint. Warehouse runs on Azure SQL or Microsoft Fabric.
  • BC on-prem / NAV — direct SQL Server connectivity if you control the database.
  • NAV 2009 R2 onward, BC, GP, AX, Dynamics 365 F&SCM — the same Jet Analytics warehouse handles a mixed Dynamics estate, useful during a NAV→BC migration.
  • Microsoft Fabric / Azure Data Lake / Synapse — supported as deployment targets if you're running a wider Microsoft data platform.
  • Drag-and-drop modelling UI — generates SQL and DAX automatically. Means a finance person can extend the model without a database developer.

The Amplio service wrap

Typical engagement is 4–6 weeks: warehouse stand-up, BC connector configuration, dimension and hierarchy alignment with your reporting requirements, Power BI workspace setup, two training sessions (one for the cube author, one for the report consumers). Ongoing support covers refreshes, schema evolution as BC changes, and Power BI workspace governance. Same fixed-scope, fixed-go-live commitment as the rest of our work.

Best fit for

  • Organisations already using or planning to use Power BI seriously.
  • Multi-company groups where reporting needs to span entities and time periods.
  • Mixed Dynamics estates (NAV + BC, BC + GP) needing one analytics layer.
  • Finance functions whose reporting load is now hurting BC user-experience for everyone else.
  • Anyone whose Power BI dashboards are currently fed by manually-refreshed Excel exports.

Not the right fit if

  • You only need financial statements in Excel — Jet Reports alone is lighter and cheaper.
  • You have no Power BI usage and no plans to start. The cubes are still useful via Excel PivotTable, but the ROI tilts heavily once Power BI is in the mix.

Pricing & procurement

Subscription, scaled by data-volume tier and user count. Quoted by us or directly by InsightSoftware. Implementation is fixed-package against the source-system count and report scope.

Frequently asked questions

Are you the reseller, or do we buy direct from InsightSoftware?

Both work. Amplio is an InsightSoftware partner and can procure Jet Analytics under our agreement. Direct purchase also works — we don’t insist on margin.

What’s the cheapest Jet Analytics tier?

Pricing is scaled by source-system count and report scope. The smallest tier — single BC source, standard cube pack — is typically £1,200–£1,800 per month. Cheaper than building the same warehouse from scratch.

Can we trial Jet Analytics first?

Yes — InsightSoftware provides an evaluation environment, and we can stand up a sandbox connected to a copy of your BC data for a meaningful 30-day trial.

How does this compare to building a custom Power BI data model?

Jet Analytics ships pre-built cubes for BC’s financial, sales, purchasing, inventory and project tables. A custom Power BI model takes 8–16 weeks to build from scratch and needs ongoing maintenance. Jet Analytics installs in 4–6 weeks and InsightSoftware maintains the cubes across BC upgrades.

What’s the difference between Jet Analytics and Jet Reports?

Jet Reports is Excel-native, single-user, ad-hoc finance reporting. Jet Analytics is a multi-user data warehouse + cubes + Power BI dashboards. Most clients with a finance team plus an operations team use both.

Do we need Power BI licences for Jet Analytics?

Yes — Power BI Pro (or Premium per User) is licensed separately for users consuming the dashboards. Jet Analytics provides the data model; Power BI is the presentation layer.
